Annual GDP losses from drought
Agriculture contributes approximately 33% of Kenya's GDP and employs over 70% of the rural population — but remains almost entirely unprotected. Despite the scale of risk, less than 1% of Kenyan farmers hold any form of crop or livestock insurance.
The challenge is not just the weather. It is the near-total absence of accessible, affordable, and clearly explained insurance at the grassroots level. Kapri was built specifically to bridge this gap.
How Kapri Responds
Challenge
Less than 1% of Kenyan farmers are insured (Africa Re, 2025)
Kapri's Response
County-level offices, field officer networks and private sector agents to educate and enrol farmers directly.
Challenge
2.6 million livestock died in the 2022–23 drought alone (NDMA, 2023)
Kapri's Response
Index-based livestock insurance and rapid claims settlement within 14 days.
Challenge
Limited technology access in ASAL regions — home to 52.8 million livestock
Kapri's Response
Digital and physical presence through vetted field officers and veterinary extension workers.
Challenge
Agriculture contributes ~33% of GDP yet holds less than 1% of insurance premiums
Kapri's Response
Bundled products negotiated at competitive co-insurance rates for cooperatives and SACCOs.
